Closeup macrophotograph of a fossilized ammonite of the genus Cleoniceras, recovered from sediments on Madagascar dating back more than 65 million years. The cross-section shows the wondrous intricate patterns, details and crystallization in the specimen. The resemblance to the living ancestor, the nautilus, is apparent.
